This cookware set is an exceptional value, including all of the pans needed to equip your kitchen with the most used cooking pieces. As the set contains only basic pieces, you'll really use each and every pan. Not recommended for use on ceramic/glass stovetops.
Why not choose cookware that brightens up your kitchen décor? KitchenAid's Gourmet Essentials Hard-Base cookware features not only a heavy-gauge aluminum core for fast, even heating, but porcelain enamel exteriors in a choice of bright red and other colors. The three-layer nonstick finish inside each piece is primed with the company's patented hard base ceramic primer for toughness, resulting in long-lasting durability and quick food release. KitchenAid further embellishes these colorful pots with dual-riveted, stainless-steel handles that are wrapped with comfortable, stay-cool silicone grips. The lids, made of 18/10 stainless steel, also feature silicone-wrapped handles, highly arched to enable easy grasping with a potholder or oven mitt. Both the pans and lids are oven-safe up to 350 degrees F. Take note: the cookware is not dishwasher-safe, and should not be used on ceramic or glass cooktops.
An excellent value, this 12-piece set consists of the most frequently used kitchen pots and pans and makes a great gift set. The two skillets, measuring 8 and 10 inches in diameter, handle everyday frying and sautéing needs, from eggs-over-easy to grilled cheese sandwiches to fish filets, then crepes for dessert. Three saucepans holding 1, 2, and 3 quarts let you boil a couple eggs, heat soup, and slow-cook rice. The large 8-quart stockpot with two loop handles works admirably for family-sized batches of pasta, chili, soup, and corn-on-the-cob. Finally, the 12-inch/5-quart covered sauté is so versatile you'll use it often to fry chicken, braise meats, and whip up vegetable stir-fries. The nonstick finish releases food quickly and makes clean up by hand a snap. KitchenAid covers the set with a limited lifetime warranty. --Ann Bieri

It matches all the other red Kitchen Aid products I have! It cooks evenly and all the sizes are very useful. Only downfall is that if you put the pans in the dishwasher the color may fade, so it's hand wash only. Other than that I highly recommend!
"A review 2 and a half years later" 2010-08-19By

I bought these pans back in 2007 and have used them nearly every day since. The pans seem to be holding up very well against repeated use. The non-stick is still on all the pans, the lids are still in good shape and handles on the pans are as tight as they were on day 1. The only show of wear is the red enamel on the outside. We wash our pans in the dishwasher (some advise against it) and one of our pans turned pink after we had it in a "hot water cycle." The inside of the pan was fine, but you could tell some coating on the outside of the pan had been damaged by hot water. The rest of the pans are holding up just fine and we still use the dishwasher but we don't use the "hot" cycle when the pans are in it.
These really are a terrific buy and we would not think twice about buying them again. We are very happy with how they have worked for us and held up to repeated use for the last 2 and a half years and they still have many more years worth of life left in them.
"5 + years of use" 2010-07-29By

I've had this cookware set for a little more than 5 years now. Technically you can wash them in the dishwasher but it is NOT recommended for any non-stick pan, so these are no different than nearly any other non-stick set. (Some cheaper sets will advertise that they are 'dishwasher safe', but hand-washing any non-stick cookware will drastically increase the life of the non-stick coating.) The frypans and saute pan have received the most use, and surprisingly the small 1 qt saucepot gets a lot of use for making oatmeal! After 5 years the non-stick coating is pitted on only one pan (probably because I left something acidic in it too long before I got around to washing it). For the others, there isn't even so much as a scratch in the non-stick and they still perform as well as they did on Day 1. Eggs don't stand a chance of sticking; clean up is super easy. I have never noticed hot spots, but they are a little slow to heat up (well, it's aluminum construction - even heating but slow to heat... it's just how aluminum is expected to perform). I'll often put the burner on high just to get things moving and then turn it down to normal heat a minute or two later.
The larger frypan has warped ever so slightly. Even with handwashing, the red enamel exterior has faded and lost some of its luster on the more frequently used pieces. This is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect the cooking performance.
The only negative that I can really give is that, since they're aluminum construction and therefore not magnetic, they can't be used on new induction cooktops without a heating disc.

beautiful out of the box. after a year of use, the red finish has faded to an ugly dull shade. and - who wants to hand-wash their pots and pans? no thanks, KitchenAid.
